NTS Damascus Skinner

Owning and carrying an exclusive knife of a very special kind is an inner satisfaction for some women, but mainly for men, in short for people with the primal genes of actively procuring their own food (hunters, anglers, trappers).

As a trained metal former with a German skilled worker’s certificate and extensive professional experience during my first 40 years in Germany, I spent a whole year developing my “NTS Damascus Skinner” in my Canadian trapline on the other side of the world at the ripe age of 84.

Since I have been living in the uninhabited wilderness of Canada without electricity for the past 40 years, setting up a knife smith would require a massive expansion of my solar system and enormous investments that will not pay for themselves in the few years of my life left. For this reason alone, I tested a total of seven knifemakers in Germany, Canada, and the rest of the world before, with a heavy heart, I decided to hand over the production of my product after I was satisfied with the result of the work of a highly qualified knifemaker.

May my knife-creation bring you pleasure and joy every time you use it!

“NTS DAMASCUS SKINNER”

Certificate of Authenticity

  1. My 80 years of outdoor and skinning practice in trapping, hunting and fishing, including over 40 years as a professional trapper in the wilderness of Canada, and the resulting experiences form the practical basis of my sophisticated “NTS Damascus Skinner” design.
  2. Processing only naturally grown, practical and valuable handle materials (up to 20,000 years old mammoth ivory upon request) achieves the highest quality standard in terms of hardness, insensitivity to dirt, cold and heat stress, impact resistance as well as splinter and break resistance.
  3. The noble Damascus steels carbon and nickel with over 200 folds and an HRC (Hardness Rockwell Cone) value of 59-60 as well as the high level of craftsmanship in fusion, hardening and manufacturing establish the excellent result of the product analysis of my high-quality knife. Nevertheless, I recommend simple grease treatment to prevent corrosion.
  4. The thumb rest between the handle and the back of the knife as well as the index finger stopper in front of the cutting edge relieve the working hand enormously of the effort required during longer knife work.
  5. The small but effective bone saw on the back of the knife does the work on ribs and the connection of the hip bones even on older animals, without the hassle of changing tools twice.
  6. The cutting edge with a grinding angle of only 13˚(angle-guide incl.) and the ideal average length of 14 cm achieves razor sharpness with the correct grinding technique – first on well-watered, fine-grained sandstone, then on ceramic steel and finally on leather, turning over the back of the blade – enables the knife to be used for the finest skinning, when breaking down small and large mammals as well as for all outdoor needs.
  7. The sheath is handmade in Canada using Hermann Oak Natural Tooling Leather – one of the world’s best!
  8. The embossed NTS Logo/my family crest on each knife/sheath + box confirm the authenticity of my NTS product.

I congratulate you on your purchase and would like to share with you the joy, pleasure and pride of owning such a noble “NTS Damascus Skinner”!

You are very welcome to test it in practice in the wilderness of my 540 square miles trapline to have the origin of this elegant knife creation revealed and to enjoy an unforgettable experience!
